Hotel Review: Six Senses Laamu by Carmen Caballero
Month Visited: June 2018
Type of visit: Couples
Length of stay: 3 nights
Check-in and first impressions:
We arrived at Kadhdhoo Airport and the staff from Six Senses were ready to take us to the hotel, of course, our luggage was taken separately and we didn’t even realize its there until we arrived to our room. A speedboat transfer was waiting, with wifi on board. We even saw dolphins on our way! Our shoes were collected in the boat since the hotel has a “no news, no shoes” philosophy. We offered a welcome drink which was Ginger lemon tea. After arriving, we loved that we were assigned a butler, at the hotel they are called GEMs. We were escorted by our GEM Aussam to our overwater villa.
Room type and first impressions– size, views, wardrobe, decor, welcome amenities… :
We were at Jetty A which is the longest jetty at Six Senses Laamu. We had and overwater Laamu villa, number 21, which was at the end of the jetty. We had personalized bikes at the front of our villa with personalized initials. Our villa was stunning, most of it was open-air, except the bedroom part. We had glass in some parts of the floor and the bath so we could see the beautiful water beneath. From time to time we got to see turtles or sea rays crossing. It was stunning! Specially loved the bed, super comfy and the pillow menu had many options. There was fair storage space, the wardrobes were OK a bit dark. At the minibar area we had complimentary coffee and tea throughout our stay, and still/sparkling water and a bottle of sparkling wine.
Bathroom and amenities:
The outdoor shower and bath were STUNNING. The amenities are in ceramic flasks, they were very clean and they had from the usual: shampoo, conditioner, body milk…. But also aloe vera, after-sun shampoo and after-sun conditioner and insect repellent. Also sea salts for the bath. You could watch TV from the bath, and shower!
It was super easy to join and worked very well throughout the property.
The pool was very nice, and kept very clean. It is by the beach and had a restaurant for snacks and drinks called Sip Sip which we didn’t try, but everything looked really good. The only thing I missed was a bit more efficient service at the pool area, the service throughout the property was excellent and by the pool there was no one in charge of towels or even asking us if we wanted a drink or something… Other than that, we came here everyday because it was lovely.
One of my favorite parts of my stay at Six Senses Laamu. Lots of variety and excellent quality. My favorite were the banana pancake, french toast with mango, banana and passion fruit touch and, Eggs Benedict were SO GOOD.
We loved the location open-air and the service was 10/10.
The hotel’s location is fantastic. It is the only hotel in Laamu Atoll which is composed of 58 islands. This was perfect for snorkel lovers, the hotel was surrounded by many coral reefs and there were so many coloured fish and a beautiful underwater landscape. Loved it.
We tried 3 different restaurants: The Leaf, mediterranean. Zen, the japanese. And Longitude mediterranean buffet.
At The Leaf, we really enjoyed the fresh fish and for dessert the honey/lavender cheesecake. It is an open-air restaurant and loved the jungle vibes. The kitchen is also open-air and set in the middle of the restaurant which was really cool.
At Zen, we enjoyed the sushi, it was different from what we are used to but very nice. The best was the soft shell crab.
I am not usually a fan if buffet’s, I prefer a la carte, but we were recommended to try it, and we went for it! I really enjoyed the buffet, there was so much variety of food! Specially loved the fish soup, the truffle pasta and the spinach risotto.
At the chill bar, we usually had drinks in the afternoon and went for a snack at lunch time, we loved the views and open-air with a breeze.
Loved the spa! The couples nests overlooking the beach and open-air were stunning. I decided to go for a hot stone back aromatherapy massage while my husband was snorkeling, and it was really great!
Everyday, guests are offered a complimentary snorkeling trip, just swimming away from the hotel altogether and its the perfect opportunity to see lots of colored fish, sea turtles, sharks and sea rays in case you are scared to do this on your own.
Loved night cinema at the beach!!
We also did some paddle boarding at the beach.
What I love the most:
I loved the underwater coral reefs, and our villa was the best experience!!! Really enjoyed spending time here. Breakfast was also one of our favorite parts. Also, our GEM was always very efficient with bookings and also, we had a night flight, and the last day we did not even have to ask for late check-out since he had already thought about this before leaving and we got the room until 6 PM.
Disclosure: I was a guest of this hotel and even though the hotel may have offered complimentary services, my reviews will never be swayed one way or the other. Hope you trust you have received complete truth in each review.
