LALIBELA
Located at an altitude of 2,600 meters, it is undoubtedly the most impressive of the 8 Ethiopian cities classified as World Heritage Sites. Its main attraction is the 11 monolithic churches of the twelfth century, literally excavated in the rock and divided into two blocks separated by the River Yordanos (Jordan). The first group symbolizes the earthly Jerusalem and the second group the celestial one. In the interior of all the churches there are beautiful mural paintings of Byzantine influence, manuscripts, prayer sticks and many antiques.
